About Us

Our History

Established in 1963 by Mr Edwin Talbot, the business initially specialised in wedding albums and photography. Following Mr Talbots untimely passing the business was sold to George Hunter who expanded the range of products to include artwork and picture framing.

In 2006 after 30 years at the helm, George Hunter decided to retire and sold the business to Chris & Anna Bull. After a full refurbishment and investment in the latest picture framing equipment, the gallery reopened  in April 2006.   After 10 happy years running and building the business, Chris and Anna moved on to focus more on their restoration company, Fine Art Restoration.

In January 2016 Ben & Hannah Heslop took on the gallery and framing business. Having been friends with Chris & Anna for many years, this seemed like a very fitting transition.

Ben’s link with the Bulls started many years ago when his father attended a Simon Bull picture framing course when both families lived in Yorkshire. Later, Mike Heslop (Ben’s father) was vicar in the parish of Newton Reigny and left shortly before Simon Bull (Chris’s Father) moved to the village.  The circle was finally completed when Ben and Chris met later in life and became firm friends through a love of art, photography, walking and wine while both living in Carlisle.  The gallery is still very much ‘family run’, you can often find Hannah, Sophie Elijah & Otto busying themselves on the shop floor.

Ben and Chris still work closely together as The Fine Art Restoration and Edwin Talbot Gallery Teams provide a great level of expertise to help both companies tackle any exciting and varied projects that come their way.  Ben also has another business Landmark Street Art which is also based in Carlisle and sells high end street art to private clients all over the globe.  Ben is also responsible fro bringing many world famous street artists to paint on the walls of his city increasing the publics awareness of public art and its benefit to the landscape of a city.  In 2018 Ben was awarded The Carlisle Living Awards "Cultural City Award" for his efforts.
